Hanoi to Ha Giang: the honest guide
Ha Giang is the gateway to the famous Ha Giang Loop, about 300 km north of Hanoi. There is no train, so you'll travel by road — expect roughly six to seven hours. Here's how to choose.

Most people take the overnight sleeper bus: you leave Hanoi in the evening and wake up in Ha Giang ready to ride, saving a night's accommodation. Take the limousine van if you'd rather travel by day in a bit more comfort, or a private car if you're a group.
A note on the loop
The Ha Giang Loop is a 3–4 day motorbike route. If you don't ride, book an "easy rider" — a local driver who takes you on the back of their bike. Sort your Ha Giang arrival first (above), then arrange the loop once you're in town or through your hostel.
